v2.0.0 — October 2026
Your whole collection, wherever it lives. The biggest update since launch: TritonPanels now reads comics on your own comic server, a network share, a USB drive or a cloud folder in place, and adds a download manager, text on the page, right-to-left manga, new formats and privacy controls. See every feature.
- Comic servers — connect Komga or Kavita, with reading progress kept in step on the server, or Calibre and other OPDS catalogs.
- Live libraries — read a Dropbox or iCloud Drive folder, a folder on your device, an SD card or USB drive, or a network share (SMB 2 or 3) in place, refreshed when files change. Follow a Substack publication’s free comic posts.
- Transfer over Wi-Fi — send comics from a computer’s browser to your phone over your own network.
- Downloads and storage — one Downloads screen, Keep offline for a comic, folder or whole library, and a breakdown of the space each one uses.
- Find things faster — search every library at once, Reading Now, Recently imported, favourite locations, and folders inside folders with colours, symbols and covers.
- Text on the page — select, copy and translate the text in speech bubbles; Translate pages (Experimental) and Lift subject. All on your device.
- Read your way — right-to-left reading for manga, warmth, sepia, invert and tint, page-matched and immersive backgrounds, reader presets, custom tap zones, Zoom Lock, six page-fit modes, Continue to next comic, and page turns from a keyboard, game controller or remote.
- Privacy — incognito reading, a passcode content lock for chosen comics and folders, and a privacy screen.
- Make it yours — new themes and accent colours, reading goals by pages, minutes or comics, and a history of every reading session.
- New formats — CB7, compressed TAR and image-based EPUB, with AVIF, HEIC and JPEG XL pages.
- Collections are now folders: everything you had in a collection is still there, in a folder of the same name.
v1.3.2 — 17 September 2026
Panel by Panel, sharper. Panel detection works on more pages and frames each panel tighter to its art.
- Reads more pages correctly — a new on-device panel detector, trained on over a thousand hand-checked pages including European albums and classic Sunday strips, finds panels on layouts it used to miss and frames each one on its art, with no page border.
- Hide Surrounding Panels — black out everything except the panel you’re reading. Open Reading Mode and turn it on.
- Peek past the edge — drag with two fingers to see a speech bubble or piece of art that spills outside the panel.
- Brightness now goes much darker than the screen’s own minimum, for reading at night.
- After importing from Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, you land straight back on your library.
- The Panel by Panel guide shows once more so you can catch up, and How Controls Work in the reader menu brings it back any time.
v1.3.1 — 11 September 2026
Google Drive, sorted. On iPhone and iPad, Google Drive comics are now chosen through the Files app: tap Google Drive, then Open Files, then Browse › Google Drive. Google only lets an app browse your Drive folders itself after a paid annual security review, which would push up the price of TritonPanels, so this keeps the app affordable.
- If Google Drive isn’t listed in Files, install the Google Drive app and switch it on under Browse › Edit.
- Dropbox and OneDrive are unchanged and browse in-app.
v1.3.0 — 7 September 2026
A much better Panel by Panel. A new panel detector, trained on Western comic pages, finds panels on far more pages than before — full-bleed art, borderless digital layouts and busy grids included. It runs entirely on your device.
- Every panel, in order — wide strips are shown full width and centred instead of leaving the page where it was, and grids are read row by row. Blank margins are no longer mistaken for panels.
- Controls you can reach — tap the sides to step back and forward, tap the top of the screen for the controls, or swipe down to show them and up to hide them. A short drag counts as a tap.
- Guides for every way of reading — the first time you open a reading mode, a one-screen guide shows its gestures. Bring it back from How Controls Work in the reader menu, or under Settings → Gesture Guides.
- Covers and splash pages are still shown whole, and PDFs now report their page count correctly in Panel by Panel.
v1.2.1 — August 2026
- Panel by Panel now works with PDFs — the same one-panel-at-a-time reading you already had for CBZ, CBR and CBT.
- Sharper panel detection on black-and-white line art, pages with a textured background, full-bleed art and unusually wide pages.
- Fixed light text on a light background in some reader menus.
- Pages the reader prepares from a PDF now count towards your storage limit, and are removed when you delete a comic.
v1.2.0 — August 2026
Panel by Panel. A fourth way to read: TritonPanels finds the panels on a page and takes you through them one at a time, each one filling the screen. No pinching, no hunting for the next balloon — tap the right edge to move on, the left edge to go back, and double tap whenever you want to see the whole page again.
- Panel detection runs on your device — it reads the gutters on the page itself, so it works on the comics you already own and nothing is uploaded anywhere.
- Reading direction — left-to-right or right-to-left, so manga steps through in the right order.
- Falls back gracefully — on a full-bleed splash page with no gutters to find, you simply get the whole page.
- Panel by Panel sits alongside single page, double-page spreads and continuous scroll in the reader’s View Mode menu, and can be set as your default in Settings.
v1.1.0 — 31 July 2026
Google Drive now asks for less. TritonPanels used to request read access to your whole Drive. It doesn’t any more.
- Choosing comics from Google Drive now happens in Google’s own file picker, and TritonPanels only ever receives the files you pick there.
- The app no longer requests a restricted Drive scope, so there is nothing in your Drive it could read without you choosing it first.
- Dropbox and OneDrive are unchanged.
v1.0.0 — 15 July 2026
The first release of TritonPanels. A premium comic reader for iPhone, iPad and Android, built around the library you already own.
- Reader — single page, double-page spreads and continuous scroll; page-curl, slide or no animation; pinch-zoom, brightness, keep-awake and a thumbnail strip.
- Library — grid and list views, collections, reading lists, tags, favourites, filters and search.
- Cloud storage — connect Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive and read your comics in place, or import files directly from your device.
- Formats — CBZ, CBR, PDF, CBT and CB7, with
ComicInfo.xmlmetadata. - Reading tools — offline downloads, bookmarks, per-page notes, reading progress and stats.
- Comfort — light and dark themes, no ads, anonymised diagnostics.
