Step-by-step guides: TritonPanels guides

Quickstart

How do I add my first comic?

In the Library, tap the + button (Add comics) to open Connect Storage. From there you can:

New comics appear in your library with their covers. Each option is explained below.

Do I need an account?

No. TritonPanels has no sign-up and no app account. Your library and settings live on your device. The only sign-ins you’ll ever see are optional ones to your own cloud storage, network share or comic server. A server or share login is kept in your device’s secure storage and sent only to that server — never to TritonApps.

Cloud storage

Connecting Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive

Open Settings → Cloud storage and tap Connect next to a provider (or tap + in the Library), then sign in through the provider’s own secure login. TritonPanels never stores your files on our servers.

Disconnecting a provider

In Settings → Cloud storage, tap Disconnect next to the provider. To fully revoke access, also remove TritonPanels from your provider’s connected-apps screen (see Delete your data).

New files aren’t showing up

Make sure Cloud Sync is on under Settings → Storage & sync, then pull down on the Library to refresh. If Avoid Cellular Data is on, cloud sync waits until you’re on Wi-Fi.

Google Drive on iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad, Google Drive comics are chosen through Apple’s Files app rather than an in-app folder browser. Tap Google Drive on the Connect Storage screen, choose Open Files, then tap Browse and pick Google Drive. If Google Drive isn’t listed, install the Google Drive app from the App Store and switch it on under Browse → Edit. No Google sign-in happens inside TritonPanels on iOS.

Why it works this way: Google only lets an app browse your Drive folders itself after a paid annual security review, which would push up the price of TritonPanels. Dropbox and OneDrive are fully browsable inside the app on every device, and on Android, Google Drive opens Google’s own file picker.

Network shares, folders and Wi-Fi transfer

Reading from a NAS or PC (SMB share)

Tap + in the Library, then SMB network share under Local network. Enter the Server name or IP address, the Share name and your sign-in, tap Test connection, then Attach library. SMB 2 and 3 are supported, and TritonPanels only reads the share — it never changes it. On iPhone and iPad, shares that require SMB encryption can’t be used. Guide: read comics from a NAS or SMB share.

Reading from a folder, USB drive or SD card

Tap + in the Library, then Add a folder or drive, and choose the folder. Its comics are read where they are, and the library refreshes when files change. On iPhone and iPad you can also keep an iCloud Drive folder as a library. A Dropbox folder works too; on iPhone and iPad it needs the Dropbox app installed and signed in. Manage them under Settings → Storage & sync → Folders and drives. Guide: read comics from a USB drive, SD card or folder.

Sending comics from a computer over Wi-Fi

  1. Put your phone or tablet and the computer on the same private Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap + in the Library, then Transfer over Wi-Fi.
  3. Choose when it should stop automatically, then tap Start transfer server.
  4. On the computer, scan the QR code or open the address shown in a browser, then enter the session code.
  5. Drop your comic files on the page, or click Choose files.
  6. Tap Stop server when you’re done.

Files go straight between your devices; nothing passes through TritonApps. The page uses plain HTTP, so only use it on a network you trust. Guide: transfer comics to your phone over Wi-Fi.

Comic servers

Connecting Komga, Kavita, Calibre or an OPDS catalog

Tap + in the Library and choose Komga, Kavita, Calibre Content Server or OPDS catalog under Catalogs. Enter your server’s address and sign-in, then tap Test and save (or Check catalog for OPDS). TritonPanels talks to your server directly; nothing goes through TritonApps. On iPhone and iPad, iOS asks for Local Network permission the first time — allow it so the app can reach a server at home. Away from home, Tailscale is the easiest safe route for Komga, Kavita, Calibre and OPDS: HTTPS on a *.ts.net MagicDNS name via Tailscale Serve (such as https://komga.your-tailnet.ts.net), with Tailscale running on the phone. Plain HTTP to a 100.x address, self-signed certificates and SMB over Tailscale are refused.

Is my reading progress synced with the server?

With Komga and Kavita, yes: progress is kept in step with the server both ways. Calibre and other OPDS catalogs are read-only, so progress stays on your device.

Guides: Komga, Kavita, Calibre and OPDS.

Files & formats

Which formats are supported?

TritonPanels reads CBZ, CBR (RAR4), CB7, CBT and compressed TAR comics, PDF, and image-based, DRM-free EPUB. Pages can be JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and more, including AVIF, HEIC (Android 9 or later) and JPEG XL (iPhone and iPad only).

Not supported: CBR files saved as RAR5, CBA, text-only EPUB, and anything copy-protected (DRM). Re-save a RAR5 or CBA comic as CBZ (how). Where a ComicInfo.xml is present, series, number, writer, publisher and other details are read automatically.

Importing from my device

In the Library, tap +, then Import from Device, and pick your comics. They’re copied into the app’s library for fast, offline reading. You can also use Open in TritonPanels from other apps.

Reading

Changing how a comic reads

While reading, tap the page to show the controls, then open the reader menu to change Reading Mode (Single Page, Double Page, Continuous Scroll or Panel by Panel), Page Fit, Page Turn Style, Background and Brightness. Changes there apply to that comic; set defaults for every comic under Settings → Reading.

Reading manga right to left

Choose Reading Direction → Right to Left (Manga) in the reader menu, or pick the Manga preset. To make it the default, use Settings → Reading → Default Reading Direction. Guide: read manga on iPhone and Android.

Colour, presets and tap zones

Colour in the reader menu adjusts warmth, saturation, sepia, tint and inverted brightness; set the app default under Settings → Reading → Reader colour. Reader Preset applies a saved setup: Standard, Two-Page, Manga, Guided Panels, or your own from Settings → Reading → Reader Presets. Choose what each tap zone and swipe does under Settings → Reading → Reader Gestures. You can also turn pages with a keyboard, game controller or media remote.

Selecting and translating text

Choose Select text in the reader menu to copy, share or translate the text in speech bubbles. Translate pages (Experimental) shows a translation over the bubbles as you read; on iPhone and iPad it needs iOS 18 or later, and on Android each language (about 30 MB) downloads once from Google. Text is recognised and translated on your device. Guide: translate comics and manga.

Bookmarks and notes

Use Add Bookmark in the reader to mark a page, and add a note if you want to remember why. Find them all again on the comic’s details screen.

Offline reading

Keeping comics on the device

Comics imported from your device are always available offline. For comics in the cloud, on a share or on a server, turn on Keep offline on a comic’s details screen, in a folder, or for a whole library (Settings → Libraries, then the library). Comics kept offline are never removed to free up space.

Managing downloads and space

Settings → Storage & sync → Downloads shows the download queue, with pause and resume. Settings → Storage & sync → Storage usage shows the space each library uses and lets you clear caches such as extracted pages, PDF pages and thumbnails. Guide: read comics offline.

Library & organisation

Folders and reading lists

Collections are now folders: each collection you had became a folder in the same library, with the same name, comics, cover and order. Folders can hold other folders, and each can have its own colour, symbol and cover. Open them from My folders in the Library. A reading list sets an order for a guided run; add a comic from its details screen with Add to Reading List. Folders never move or rename your files.

Finding things

Tap the search icon to search one library or all libraries at once by title, series, author, publisher or tag. Use the filters (All, Favorites, In Progress, Completed, Unread) and sort options to narrow things down, and Reading Now in the Library to pick up where you left off.

Subscription

Is there a free version?

No. TritonPanels is a subscription app: an active subscription is needed to open your library and read any comic. New subscribers get a 14-day free trial, then pay monthly or yearly.

Start a free trial

On the in-app paywall, choose a plan and start the 14-day free trial. You will not be charged during the trial. Cancel before it ends to avoid the first paid period.

Manage or cancel

Apple App Store and Google Play own subscription billing — we cannot cancel for you. Step-by-step instructions for both stores are in our Subscription Terms.

Restore purchases

Open Settings → Manage Subscription → Restore Purchases, or tap Restore Purchases on the paywall. Use this if your subscription shows as inactive after re-installing the app or switching device.

Refunds

Refund requests go through Apple (support.apple.com/HT204084) or Google (support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637). If they can’t resolve a billing issue, write to us and we’ll help where we can.

Troubleshooting

A comic won’t open or pages are missing

Make sure the file isn’t password-protected, copy-protected or corrupted, and that it downloaded fully (for cloud files, check your connection). Very large pages can take a moment to render the first time.

A CBR won’t open

It is probably saved as RAR5, which TritonPanels can’t read. Re-save it as CBZ on your computer (how) and import it again.

A server or share won’t connect

Cloud sign-in fails

Disconnect the provider in Settings → Cloud storage and reconnect. If your session has expired, the app will prompt you to sign in again.

The app crashed

Sorry — please email support@tritonapps.com with your device, OS version, and what you were doing when it happened. The app sends anonymised crash traces automatically (via Sentry), and your report helps us reproduce the issue.

Privacy & data

What we collect, who processes it, and how to exercise your rights are documented in the Privacy Policy. To clear everything, see Delete your data.

Can I keep what I read private?

Yes. Incognito reading (in Settings → Reading, or Read incognito on a comic) saves no progress, history or stats. Content lock puts a passcode on the comics and folders you choose; set it up under Settings → Content lock. It hides them inside TritonPanels but does not encrypt the files. Privacy screen, in the same section, hides the app’s contents in the app switcher. Guide: read comics privately.
