OPDS

OPDS comic reader for iPhone, iPad and Android

Quick answer. TritonPanels is an OPDS comic reader for iPhone, iPad and Android, including Calibre. It speaks OPDS 1 and OPDS 2, with Basic, Digest or OAuth sign-in. Catalogs are read-only: you can browse and read, and reading progress stays on the device. It does not write progress back to Calibre.

What an OPDS catalog is

OPDS is an open way for a server to list books. Calibre’s content server is the one most people meet first. Komga, Kavita and other servers can expose a catalog the same way. TritonPanels has a Calibre card and a general OPDS card, and it can search, sort and use facets the catalog offers.

A server shows up under Catalogs on the Libraries screen. OPDS catalogs are attached the same way.

The address, the sign-in types and the Calibre-specific steps are in the OPDS and Calibre guide.

Read-only, on purpose

For OPDS, TritonPanels does not send reading progress back to the server. Your place is saved on that phone or tablet. A second device does not pick it up from Calibre. If you need the place to follow you, use Komga or Kavita, which do sync both ways. That limit is the main thing to know before you pick OPDS as the only link between devices. Syncing progress compares the three.

Honest limit: OPDS in TritonPanels is for browsing and reading. It is not a progress sync.

Sign-in and platforms

Basic, Digest and OAuth are the sign-in methods. Passwords sit in the iOS Keychain or Android encrypted storage and are sent only to your server. Platforms are iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later, and Android 7.0 or later. There is no Mac app and no web app.

Offline copies

You can keep a book offline after it has been downloaded. A catalog that is only reachable at home will not stream on a train. Reading comics offline explains Keep offline and the download queue.
