What Panels has said
The Panels homepage describes a DRM-free reader for iPad, iPhone and Mac. It does not list Android. The community thread titled “Panels is coming to Android” is the public record, and it is worth reading in order rather than quoting the title:
- 26 September 2021: an announcement that Android work had started, aimed at early 2022.
- 3 July 2024: a developer wrote that Panels Android was “canceled indefinitely” and that they were not working on it.
- 8 December 2025: the same developer wrote that Android was “still in the icebox”.
- 8 September 2026: another developer wrote that they are working on Panels 4 and would like to revisit Android for 2027, and pointed people at an email list. That is a plan to look again, not a release.
Nothing on those pages is an Android download. If you want the iPhone and Mac app, install Panels there. If the phone in your pocket runs Android, use a reader that ships one.
What does run on Android
The longer table is best comic reader apps for Android. The short, dated version:
- ComicDrive is the closest “my files, no account” app, and on price it is ahead of TritonPanels. Its Play listing, updated 14 October 2026, says it is free with every feature included, no ads and no subscription. It names CBZ, CBR, CB7, CBT and PDF, panel by panel on the device, a webtoon mode, SMB, FTP, SFTP and OPDS, and it says progress from Komga and Kavita is sent back to the server. It does not run on iPhone.
- CDisplayEx Lite is free on Google Play (price 0, contains ads, checked 15 October 2026). Komga and Kavita, with reading-status sync, are premium. The developer says the Windows desktop version is no longer under development. See TritonPanels vs CDisplayEx.
- Mihon is free and open source, for sources you add as well as a local source. v0.21.2 was released 13 October 2026 and needs Android 8.0. It is not an iPhone app. See TritonPanels vs Mihon.
- YACReader has an Android app that syncs with its own free desktop library. Its features page does not mention Komga or Kavita.
- TritonPanels is the one in this list that also runs on iPhone and iPad. It is not free. A 14-day trial, then monthly or yearly, no ads, no account. Komga and Kavita sync both ways. OPDS is read-only.

Read your comics with TritonPanels
A comic and manga reader for iPhone, iPad and Android. CBZ, CBR, CB7, CBT, PDF and image-based EPUB from your device, your cloud, a network share or your own Komga, Kavita or OPDS server — single page, spreads, continuous scroll or Panel by Panel. No ads, no account. 14-day free trial, then a monthly or yearly subscription.
Your own files: TritonPanels reads comics you already have. It does not sell, host or supply comics, and it cannot open copy-protected (DRM) purchases that are locked to another store’s app. Komga, Kavita, Calibre, Dropbox and the other names on this page belong to their owners, who do not endorse TritonPanels.
