Choosing

Best comic reader apps for Android

Quick answer. The useful Android comic reader is the one that opens the files you already have and reaches the server you already run. This page compares TritonPanels with CDisplayEx, Mihon, YACReader, ComicDrive, Kuro Reader and Perfect Viewer, using each product’s own site or store listing as checked on 15 October 2026.

How to read this

Nobody here is “the best” at every job. A free reader of files on the phone is a different product from a Komga client, and a source browser is a different product again. Prices below are what those listings showed. TritonPanels does not print a price: the store shows it before you subscribe. The checklist behind this page is how to choose a comic reader app.

The short table

Android comic readers, from each product’s own page on 15 October 2026
AppBest atPrice, as publishedNot its job

CDisplayExA long-standing Android reader for CBR, CBZ, PDF and manga. Komga and Kavita, with reading-status sync, are in the premium version.CDisplayEx Lite on Google Play has a price of 0 and contains ads, checked 15 October 2026. Komga and Kavita are premium. The settings page does not print that price. The developer says the Windows desktop version is no longer under development.
MihonFree, open-source Android reader with sources you add, plus a local source and a Komga extensionFree. Android 8.0 or later. v0.21.2, released 13 October 2026.Not on iPhone. Built around sources, not a Komga-first library
YACReaderIts own free desktop apps and server, with progress sync, plus Android and iOS appsDesktop and server are free and open source. The iOS app was $4.99 on the US App Store. Its features page describes YACReaderLibrary sync, not Komga or Kavita
ComicDriveA free Android reader for files you own, with panel by panel, a webtoon mode, and OPDS progress sent back to Komga and KavitaFree, with every feature included. No ads, no subscription, no account. An optional supporter purchase removes a notice and unlocks nothing. Listing updated 14 October 2026.Android only, from that listing. Not on iPhone.
Kuro ReaderCBZ, CBR, CBT, CB7 and PDF, ComicInfo.xml, SMB, manga mode and a vertical webtoon modeA free version, and Pro at $3.49 + tax on kurotoshiro.dev, checked 15 October 2026.Android. The developer has written about a Play removal and a resubmitted listing.
Perfect ViewerA fast archive and image viewer, with network shares, FTP and OPDS via pluginsFree, with a separate donation app for some features, according to the Play listing. It is a viewer with plugins, not a Komga or Kavita client

TritonPanels

TritonPanels reads CBZ, CBR (RAR4 only), CB7, CBT, PDF and image-based DRM-free EPUB from the device, a USB or SD card, SMB, cloud folders, Wi-Fi transfer, Substack, Komga, Kavita and OPDS. Komga and Kavita sync progress both ways. OPDS does not. Panel by Panel and right-to-left manga are included. There is no free tier: a 14-day trial, then monthly or yearly, no ads, no account. It is also on iPhone and iPad. It is a poor fit if you want a free app or a Mac app.

CDisplayEx

CDisplayEx’s own site calls it a light CBR reader that also opens CBZ, PDF and manga. CDisplayEx Lite on Google Play has a price of 0 and contains ads, checked 15 October 2026. The Android settings page says Komga and Kavita are premium, and that streaming and reading-status sync work with both. It names Kavita 0.7 as the minimum and says EPUBs are not supported on that connection. The same page says SMB3 is not yet available. It lists Samba, FTP and several cloud folders, and it does not list an OPDS catalog. The desktop FAQ says the Windows version is no longer under development and would need to be rewritten. Choose CDisplayEx Lite when you want a free local reader and will pay only if you need the server and cloud features. Choose TritonPanels when you also read on iPhone, or when you need OPDS. The longer version is TritonPanels vs CDisplayEx.

Mihon

Mihon’s site describes a free, open-source Android reader for manga, webtoons and comics, current release v0.21.2 on 13 October 2026, requiring Android 8.0. You add sources. It also has a local source for files on the device, and Komga documents an official Komga extension that can sync read progress. That is a real strength TritonPanels does not match: Mihon is free, and it is built to follow series from sources you install. TritonPanels does not browse those catalogues. It is for files and servers you already have, and it runs on iPhone, which Mihon does not. See TritonPanels vs Mihon.

YACReader

YACReader’s features page describes free, open-source apps for Windows, macOS and Linux, a server you can run on a NAS, and native iOS and Android apps. Progress syncs with YACReaderLibrary. The same page says the iOS and Android apps both have panel by panel reading and automatic margin trimming. It does not mention Komga, Kavita or OPDS. The US App Store listing for the iOS app was $4.99, version 3.41.0, updated 9 October 2026. If your library already lives in YACReaderLibrary, their apps are the better fit. If it lives in Komga or Kavita, TritonPanels talks to those servers directly.

ComicDrive, Kuro Reader and Perfect Viewer

ComicDrive’s Play listing, updated 14 October 2026, says the app is free with every feature included: no ads, no subscription, no account and no data collected. It reads CBZ, CBR, CB7, CBT and PDF, finds panels on the device, and reads local storage, cloud folders, SMB, FTP, SFTP and OPDS, naming Komga, Kavita and Calibre-Web. It says progress on comics from Komga and Kavita is sent back to the server, and that it has a webtoon mode. An optional supporter purchase unlocks nothing. On Android alone, that is a stronger offer than a subscription. TritonPanels is the one to add when the other device is an iPhone.

Kuro Reader’s site says it reads cbz, cbr, cbt, cb7 and pdf, with a free version and a Pro version, and that the apps were removed from Play over a screenshot and later resubmitted under new ids. The same site lists Pro at $3.49 + tax, checked 15 October 2026. The Pro Play listing, updated 9 February 2026, adds PDF, ComicInfo.xml, SMB, manga mode and a vertical webtoon mode. Perfect Viewer’s Play listing, updated 12 March 2026, is a fast viewer for archives and images. Network shares, FTP and OPDS are in that description. PDF needs its PDF plugin, and Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive need the source plugin. It has a vertical scroll mode. Some image tools need the donation app.

Panels, the well-known iPhone reader, does not offer an Android app. That is covered on Panels for Android. For iPhone and iPad, see the iPhone and iPad roundup.
